In July 2006 a group of community and business leaders from Verona recognized that the quality of an educational system and the vitality of the community it serves are intertwined. They recognized that due to diminished funding by state programs, crucial enhancements to a basic education were no longer available and that by creating a foundation they would be able to offer the opportunity to Verona’s educators to create new and exciting avenues of learning for our students. These residents wanted to ensure the continued success of our current students, as well as that of future generations, and formed the Verona Foundation for Educational Excellence (VFEE).
VFEE works to improve the education of our children through grants that go directly into the classroom. The Foundation funds major projects, as well as enables faculty members to undertake a number of innovative classroom projects at all grade levels.
Five primary funds have been created to support five core areas of education:
Technology & Learning Fund
Academic Enhancement Fund
Arts & Education Fund
Professional Development Fund
Cultural Enrichment Fund
In its first year, we saw a tremendous response from our fellow Verona citizens. The funds were acquired through donations made by over 80 individuals and families along with corporate fiscal support. VFEE reached its first-year goal and raised $100,000. Teachers from every school in the district applied for grants and used the money to bring innovative learning into their classrooms. To date, more than 40 small grants have been awarded totaling approximately $80,000.

The Verona Foundation for Educational Excellence is a non-profit organization. Registered by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization, all contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
