Resources from this fund identify and finance programs that generate cross-cultural appreciation so that Verona students, faculty and community may be enriched by, and prepared for, life and work in an increasingly global society.
One recent grant supported an adventure that enabled students to personally experience the feeling of being surrounded by representatives from around the world. The World Language United Nations visit was anything but a typical school outing for Verona's 8th graders last spring as they traveled to Manhattan to tour the UN building and observe an actual meeting in progress. Later, some students had a formal briefing in both French and English with UN Under Secretary General, Kiro Akasaka. Said teacher Emily Koliopoulos, "The trip pointed out the value of learning a foreign language at an early age and demonstrated to the children the role of cultural awareness in dealings with people from other countries. An experience that's impossible to produce inside the walls of a classroom."
